Nichelé Designs Photography Spring 2018 Outfit Guide

Warmer weather is here and it’s the perfect time to get out into the beautiful Texas landscape for stunning family photos that will be sure to dazzle your family and friends!  The first question I get from nearly every client is “What should we wear?”  Trust me, you are not alone, every person who books a sessions agonizes over this question. I’ve put a little guide together, to help ease the clothes decision.

Start with Color.  Get away from white t-shirts and jeans or every family member wearing the same outfit. Spring is a cheerful and gorgeous time of year and the color of your clothes should reflect that! Choose colors that are bright as they will photograph beautifully. A wonderful guide to on-trend spring colors is Pantone’s Spring Fashion Colors for 2018 and includes lots of fun hues!

A great portrait incorporates a few colors that are in the same family, have the same tone and coordinate with each other. You want to stay away from being too “matchy matchy”. Here is a visual of some of the colors families you can consider as you choose the outfits you and your family will wear.

Next, think about Texture.  By adding texture to your outfit you are creating a visually stimulating photograph without much effort. Soft cotton dresses and pants, silk tops and ties, light-weight scarves, denim jeans, button down shirts with rolled sleeves – these are all great for spring weather and help to add dimension and interest to your photos.

Lastly, add a couple of light-weight Layers.  They can help add pops of color and texture that mimic the budding leaves, flowers and foliage all around.  They are also go-to pieces for the transitional season where warmer temps and a cool breeze can make for a crazy weather day.

One last tip that I always give to my clients is to start thinking about everyone’s outfits at least a week before the photo shoot. Lay them all out on the bed or ground so you can see how they look side by side. If you can, leave the outfits out for a day or two so you can have a second look and make any changes (or additional purchases) well ahead of your photo session. You want to be as calm and relaxed as you can be the day of the shoot, so do your homework ahead of time, so you can focus on make some memories while spending time with your loved ones.

P.S. Don’t forget the most important accessory to any outfit – your SMILE! A positive and fun attitude going in any photo session will give you photographs you’ll cherish, no matter what you or your family is wearing!
